A function is a formalized classification of the intended uses Urban Objects can have.

Types of functions

• Culture
• Safety

In particular when addressing security aspects, it is important to consider that urban objects in practice can exhibet other functions than those intended. This is an aspect of the interaction of build and social/societal environment and for example addressed by the "sociospatial perspective" in urbanism research.
