An object with symbolic value is any object that has special meaning to fanatics or fanatic movements. This associated meaning might be extremely positive or negative. One should realise that what constitutes an ideologically attractive object should be assessed from the viewpoint of the fanatic.
Knowing the ideological value of an object is important to be able to estimate the drive of a fanatic or fantic movement to attack or 'protect' an object (which could for an outsider amount to much the same).
