The urban planning process is a process that occurs within the context of all the different functions that have to be served by the urban development and are subject to restrictive aspects. This process strives to find the compromise that optimally serves the needs of the citizens.

This is why an urban planner should be well-informed of all these contexts and their inter-relations. The illustration below shows the structure of Securipedia. In this illustration, in light blue the contexts are depicted covered in Securipedia which are brought in relation to each other, the urban planning process and security.
